Have you ever forgotten God’s goodness to you?

06/07/2011 Leave a comment

Yesterday’s Daily Devotion by Greg Laurie, “Forgetting God’s Goodness

Later, after they crossed to the other side of the lake, the disciples discovered they had forgotten to bring any bread. “Watch out!” Jesus warned them. “Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”
— Matthew 16:5

I agree that in certain points of my life, whenever I go through rough roads and stormy seas, I tend to forget God’s goodness.  But as Pastor Greg mentioned “GOD is the same yesterday, today, and forever. The same God who was there for YOU in the past will be with YOU here in the present. And He will be there for YOU in the future as well.”

I admit that there are some prayers I requested from Him that until now, I don’t have any clue… that sometimes I want to cry.  God is so silent about it…  Or maybe I still have an unconfessed sin. Or, that prayer request might not be His will or maybe He has something for me, far greater that I can ever imagine. I’m thinking of the word – “Gratitude“.  I should be thankful for whatever blessings He bestows upon me.

Thank you my Lord and my God!  May Your Holy Will be done..

Are You Enjoying Your Life?

Just read an article again from Bo Sanchez about enjoying one’s life.  Very thought-provoking article…  A must read for everyone who feels empty, worried with no sense of direction.

As such, I remembered his last message – 4 Ways of Living.

In a DVD player, there are four buttons. “Eject”, “Rewind”, “Fast Forward”, and “Play”. These 4 buttons represents the 4 ways people live their lives.

First are those who live by the “Eject” mode. They just want to escape. And they escape through their vices and addictions. They’re running away from life.

Second are those who watch their life using the “Rewind” mode. They can’t move forward. They can’t forget the pain of the past. They’re stuck in their traumas. They’re always miserable.

Third are those who live in the “Fast Forward” mode. They are so busy. They are always in a rush. They go here and there, doing this and doing that, and they have no time to understand or appreciate the “movie” of their lives.

Fourth are those who live in the “Play” mode. These are the people who savor life. These are the people who enjoy life to the full. These are the people who are the happiest of them all.

Friend, Play!

Savor life. Simplify pleasures. Strengthen relationships. Show gratitude. And share generosity.

Is it OK to have sex while you’re engaged? After all, you’re going to get married anyway.

An eye-opener article to all those who are engaged (and still single as well..).   Read more here in chastity.com.

When a husband gives his body to his bride and a bride gives herself to him, their bodies speak the truth: “I am entirely yours.” On the other hand, sex anywhere but in marriage is dishonest. No matter what, it cannot say, “I am entirely yours.” Therefore, having sex during the engagement is not a matter of “peeking under the wrapping paper.” It is a matter of completely missing the point of sex and marriage.

After reading the article, the below statement that became a challenge for me (and other men) – “the measure of true love“:

In the meantime, know that each time you resist sin you bless one another. In addition, God has issued a special challenge to men. When a man perseveres in the virtue of chastity, he helps fulfill that challenge: to love his bride as Christ loves the Church, to give himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, that he might present his bride to God “without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish” (Eph. 5:25–27). A man should consider his acceptance of this challenge to be the measure of his love for his bride. Imagine Christ hanging on the cross, saying to you, “This is how I got my bride to heaven. How else do you think you will get yours there?” When an engaged man embraces such a challenge and grows in purity with his fiancée, you will notice on his wedding day that his bride’s soul matches her dress. She glows. . . And so will he when he sees her walking down the aisle to him.

I also noticed the site’s branding (quote) from St. Josemaria Escriva, “When you decide firmly to lead a clean life, Chastity will not be a burden on you: It will be a crown of triumph.

(Un)answered Prayer

God has editing rights over our prayers. He will… edit them, correct them, bring them in line with His will and then hand them back to us to be resubmitted. ~Stephen Crotts

Last week, God granted and answered my prayer. To let my brother go into apprenticeship or on-the-job training (which I even asked my fiancee to pray the same) since it is one of the requirements in his studies for communications engineering. Wednesday night, my prayer was granted.  My brother was accepted and got into one of the leading telco company in our country. However, I would say that some of my prayers like to make rain stop from falling since my fiancee have their company outing did not stop as what I’ve expected (though I must admit, I can’t verify from my fiancée how heavy the rain was at that time). But one thing caught my attention which I got from Finest Quotes that made this post to have that opening statement.

For sure God “did listen and hear” my prayers but somehow it is not aligned with His will that He simply allow the rain to pour down… Disappointed, I still prayed, thinking of possible obstacles that resulted to unanswered prayer.  And then I realized… He wants me to depend more on him, making me more humble, continuously changing my perspective from my own to His.

Before I conclude my posts, I think it’s best to share below links I visited in understanding prayer.

Obstacles to Answered Prayer

05/25/2011 1 comment

Wow!  Just posted about answered prayer a while ago and a minute or two I received an email from Daily Devotions with Greg Laurie.

“Listen! The Lord’s arm is not too weak to save you, nor is his ear too deaf to hear you call. It’s your sins that have cut you off from God. Because of your sins, he has turned away and will not listen anymore.”

—Isaiah 59:1–2

Unconfessed sin and Idolatry is the reason why our prayers will go unanswered by God as stated in Psalm 66:18,

“If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.”

So let me conclude my post from Greg’s message,

Is there someone or something that is more important to you than God himself? Anyone or anything that becomes more important to you than God can potentially become your idol. Any object, idea, philosophy, habit, occupation, or sport that has your primary concern and loyalty—or to any degree, decreases your trust and loyalty to God—could potentially become an idol. And it could stop your prayers from being answered.

An answered Prayer (#1)

Well, just jotting down the answered prayers by God.

Last night, as I’m about to go home after school, rain poured heavily.  It’s so heavy that i can’t see the road (and even my surroundings) because it’s evening already plus the fact that it was raining.  But I prayed, giving glory and thanksgiving to my Lord and Creator.  I asked Him to let me and my family members go home first before raining continues.  I also prayed for my fiancée to arrive first in their office, just the same.  And He granted my prayers…

A very humbling experience.  Even before, I have made a lot of requests from Him and I know that from the bottom of my heart, He always answer my prayers even though I struggled a lot (spiritual arrogance).

As Bo Sanchez’s saying,

“Next time you pray any kind of prayer, whether it be for the resolution of healing, or for a house, or for a car, or for a husband, or for a family conflict, or for a solution to a problem, tell Him he can say yes or no. Because in the end, you’re a winner. Every time.”

Bo Sanchez (You Have The Power to Create Love)

Another favorite quote from a Danish Christian Philosopher,

“Prayer does not change God, but it changes him who prays.”

Søren Kierkegaard

A simple as my request seems, but God still answers prayer — and that’s the bottom line.
