(Un)answered Prayer

05/30/2011 Leave a comment

God has editing rights over our prayers. He will… edit them, correct them, bring them in line with His will and then hand them back to us to be resubmitted. ~Stephen Crotts

Last week, God granted and answered my prayer. To let my brother go into apprenticeship or on-the-job training (which I even asked my fiancee to pray the same) since it is one of the requirements in his studies for communications engineering. Wednesday night, my prayer was granted.  My brother was accepted and got into one of the leading telco company in our country. However, I would say that some of my prayers like to make rain stop from falling since my fiancee have their company outing did not stop as what I’ve expected (though I must admit, I can’t verify from my fiancée how heavy the rain was at that time). But one thing caught my attention which I got from Finest Quotes that made this post to have that opening statement.

For sure God “did listen and hear” my prayers but somehow it is not aligned with His will that He simply allow the rain to pour down… Disappointed, I still prayed, thinking of possible obstacles that resulted to unanswered prayer.  And then I realized… He wants me to depend more on him, making me more humble, continuously changing my perspective from my own to His.

Before I conclude my posts, I think it’s best to share below links I visited in understanding prayer.

Obstacles to Answered Prayer

05/25/2011 1 comment

Wow!  Just posted about answered prayer a while ago and a minute or two I received an email from Daily Devotions with Greg Laurie.

“Listen! The Lord’s arm is not too weak to save you, nor is his ear too deaf to hear you call. It’s your sins that have cut you off from God. Because of your sins, he has turned away and will not listen anymore.”

—Isaiah 59:1–2

Unconfessed sin and Idolatry is the reason why our prayers will go unanswered by God as stated in Psalm 66:18,

“If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.”

So let me conclude my post from Greg’s message,

Is there someone or something that is more important to you than God himself? Anyone or anything that becomes more important to you than God can potentially become your idol. Any object, idea, philosophy, habit, occupation, or sport that has your primary concern and loyalty—or to any degree, decreases your trust and loyalty to God—could potentially become an idol. And it could stop your prayers from being answered.

An answered Prayer (#1)

Well, just jotting down the answered prayers by God.

Last night, as I’m about to go home after school, rain poured heavily.  It’s so heavy that i can’t see the road (and even my surroundings) because it’s evening already plus the fact that it was raining.  But I prayed, giving glory and thanksgiving to my Lord and Creator.  I asked Him to let me and my family members go home first before raining continues.  I also prayed for my fiancée to arrive first in their office, just the same.  And He granted my prayers…

A very humbling experience.  Even before, I have made a lot of requests from Him and I know that from the bottom of my heart, He always answer my prayers even though I struggled a lot (spiritual arrogance).

As Bo Sanchez’s saying,

“Next time you pray any kind of prayer, whether it be for the resolution of healing, or for a house, or for a car, or for a husband, or for a family conflict, or for a solution to a problem, tell Him he can say yes or no. Because in the end, you’re a winner. Every time.”

Bo Sanchez (You Have The Power to Create Love)

Another favorite quote from a Danish Christian Philosopher,

“Prayer does not change God, but it changes him who prays.”

Søren Kierkegaard

A simple as my request seems, but God still answers prayer — and that’s the bottom line.

Four Ingredients To Great Success

I loved Bo Sanchez’s Food for the Soul today.  He wrote about the following “4 Ingredients to Great Success“.  This time, another refreshing and thought-provoking article from a great preacher.

  1. Purpose
  2. Problems
  3. Perseverance
  4. Prudence

Why am I against contraception?

Contraception, on the other hand, allows marital sexuality to devolve into a kind of mutual masturbation where each pursues erotic satisfaction apart from the total gift of self, and apart from any openness to life. Because of contraception, marital sexual activity slips into a subtle mode of mutual exploitation – a lifeless, self-focused, needs-centered apparatus.

These articles are my compilation why I am against contraception.

Hope this blog may shed light & help to others.  God Bless!

Chastity: The Guardian of Love

I just had a good read about “chastity” while trying to collect some links about overpopulation, reproductive health bill and contraception.  A virtue that most of us almost resented and failed to pursue in our life time.

If we are to truly love a person of the opposite sex, we must be able to see much more than the person’s sexual value. We must see their full value as a person and respond to them in selfless love. Wojtyla says that chastity allows us to do just that. “The essence of chastity consists in quickness to affirm the value of the person in every situation and in raising to the personal level all reactions to the value of ‘the body and sex'” (p. 171).

However, the man without chastity sits in a very sad situation: He is not free to love. He may have some good intentions and a sincere desire to care for his beloved, but without chastity, his love will never flourish, for it will not be pure. It will be mixed with a tendency to view his beloved primarily in terms of her sexual values, which make his heart delight in emotional enjoyment or make his body stir in sensual desire. Wojtyla explains that the man without chastity cannot selflessly love his beloved for who she is as a person, because his heart is so preoccupied with the emotional and sensual pleasure he receives from her (p. 164).

Read on using this link.

However, it is not too late, by God’s help and grace, we can pursue this virtue.  As per St. Paul’s statement, “I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.” —Phil 4:13 (NASB).  Even in a married life, God is challenging us, asking us to be “chaste” and see human sexuality in His perspective.  This is why Catholic Church is prohibiting her sons & daughters to use contraceptives.

May God Blesses You!
